Who should learn music production?
If you are musically inclined, good listening skills and would love to create a new original tune or song, you should learn music production.
Which software should I start with?
Various softwares like Logic pro, Ableton Live, Reaper, FL Studio, Pro tools, Reason, Cubase and many others BUT it does not matter which software to use. Focus should be on the fundamentals of music production and how to focus your creativity into creating music. Yes, you need some software to start with, but it does not matter, which one.
What age should we start?
At any age you can appreciate music. Kids of these days are smart and computer savvy. We have smart 7 year old kids who have already composed music.
Which instrument should I use for music production?
MIDI Is a very important element in Music production but that shouldn't be limiting you from producing your music with your Instrument of choice such as a guitar or Violin or Flute. You don't have to worry about learning an all new instrument again for the sake of MIDI and Music production. Synthesizers which make use of the Piano layout has been one of the effective MIDI input devices is really nice to have while creating your song as the Piano style input method in MIDI is quite user friendly to start with vs a breath controller or a MIDI pick up for a guitar. The possibilities of the piano layout particularly in a polyphonic context is highly comprehensive while making music.
We recommend any basic 4- 5 octave Midi controller keyboard from manufacturers such as Roland, Novation, M- Audio etc...based on your budget. A standard 4 octave Midi controller would cost anywhere between Rs 15000 to 18000.
What more do I need to start?
You need to 2 components as far the computer part is concerned for music Production. 1. A good computer ( Desktop or Laptop )with atleast 8 GB of RAM and 500 GB of Storage. 2. An Audio interface with 2 or more inputs.
A good pair of headphones, A MIDI keyboard controller, A Dynamic or Condenser microphone would complete the set up to start with.
